The Directorate of Archeology is one of the oldest Directorates in the sub-continent. In 1861, the journey of this department started under the name of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) of the Indian sub-continent. After independence, the head office of the Directorate of Archeology of Bangladesh was established in Dhaka.In 1983, regional offices were established in 4 departments with the head office in Dhaka through departmental reorganization. At present, the total number of antiquities preserved by the Directorate of Archeology in the Regional Director's Office, Dhaka and Mymensingh Divisions is 113 (One Hundred and Thirteen). Besides, there are 5 museum exhibitions for visitors to see.Visitors, tourists and researchers are served through these museums and archaeological sites.
